We are going to be hopefully starting this great woodland restoration project with the help of a Nature Restoration Fund Grant. This will then give us the drive to create a long-term nature haven. One that can be enjoyed by both nature and ourselves. The site just needs a bit of tweaking to open up the canopy and remove a few invasive non-native species. While also opening up silted and clogged waterways, in a natural way, rather than just creating straight flows of water. One of the goals is to get more native flowers on the woodland floor and create rides for the sun to get in and encourage a more diverse butterfly selection and wider assortments of bugs that make the site home, which also encourages more birdlife and mammals.

I have had a quick walk through and found some great standing and fallen dead wood which is great to find as this was only a small section of the 35 acre woodland I have covered so far.

This is a magnificent multi-trunked beech tree that I would say was a good example of a Historic trees.

On the initial look at the woodland I was expecting to find the invasive Sitka Spruce in here, as we are surrounded by FLS land being manage for wood.

The best piece of all the woodland has been this lovely area that we guess was used for coppicing in the past as there are a lot of fairly mature Hazel tress, that have become straggly and are fully blocking out the sunlight from the woodland floor.
